I've just finished my master's degree in Classics, where I wrote a thesis on domestic Roman religion and literature in the first century CE, worked on natural language processing (NLP) in Latin and Greek, and developed a new site for the collections at the Wilcox Classical Museum.
My thesis focuses on the changing discourses surrounding the gods of the Roman household, i.e. the lares and penates, in the first century CE. I aim to augment our understanding of how literature from the Neronian and Flavian periods employ domestic religion to participate in contemporary public discourses. This study enables us to better understand the cultural values surrounding the lares and the penates and how public perceptions of them shifted after Augustus' major religious reforms.
